Dear colleagues,
In the current issue, the editorial by Mpakogiannis highlights the spectrum of extraintestinal manifestations of Clostridioides difficile infection, raises awareness of their underlying mechanisms and clinical presentations, and emphasizes the importance of early recognition and appropriate management of these uncommon but potentially serious complications.
The current issue features five review articles. The first review by Eleftheriadis et al. summarizes the current understanding of the pathophysiology and diagnosis of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction and provides an overview of contemporary and emerging treatment strategies for this condition. The review by Tsoupra Stamatia critically reviews the current evidence on the clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic pancreatitis, highlighting advances in risk stratification and multidisciplinary patient care. The review by Perdiki et al. summarizes recent advances in the diagnosis, classification, and management of chronic kidney disease, with particular emphasis on contemporary pharmacological strategies, including RAAS inhibitors, SGLT2 inhibitors, nonsteroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, and GLP-1 receptor agonists, and their role in reducing kidney disease progression and cardiovascular risk. The review by Tsamesidis et al. summarizes current clinical and preclinical advances in myeloid neoplasms, focusing on risk stratification, emerging therapies, treatment resistance, and translational strategies. Finally, the review by Efthymiou et al. provides a comprehensive overview of pleural effusion, focusing on its pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic evaluation, and therapeutic management, with particular emphasis on distinguishing transudative from exudative effusions and on the diagnosis and management of chylothorax and pseudochylothorax.
